Progression for all subjects will be to the next level or laterally to a related subject, e.g. N5 French to N5 Spanish.
In some cases, pupils can select a language at N5 or Higher level where they have already shown a high level of aptitude in one or more of the other subjects on offer or have a proven work ethic and record of high attainment.

**Pupil 1 is an example of a standard progression route where one language is chosen.
***Pupil 2 represents the variety of combinations available. There may be the option for selected pupils to be presented in S3 for N5.
At any point in the Senior Phase (S4-6) pupils can choose a language at a level appropriate to their ability.
