Find out more about former pupils at

I really loved this school. Best school I ever went to, wish i was still there. Dilip Pahari - Former pupil (dilippahari@hotmail.com)

Duncan I saw the 1950's black and white Aerial photographs of the School and can see our house in Seton Drive. Number 4 Seton Drive was a Police House for many years where we lived from 1963 to 1979. The house had black tiles and appears to be the first built in Seton Drive. The Guide Hut appears opposite. The house also appears in the 1980 colur photo. I enjoyed my years at the School and we had a reunion of the Class of 1973 in 2003. Our next reunion will be in 2013 40 years after attending. Duncan Booth, former pupil, 1973 - 1978 (duncan.booth@hackney.gov.uk)

I LOVED this school. Many happy memories of my time here. Mr. Neil in Art most definately rocked as the best teacher. Very fond memories of Mrs. Bruce too. After some adventures I am happily married to a Dutch Scot and settled in Edinburgh. I work in education now and we have a catering business too. Our helper is an FP too. Such a small world and it is great to reminisce. Would love to visit the school again some day. It gave me such a great start, from P3 to S5. Should never have done my 6th form at a different school. Lorna Lagerman, former pupil -1888-1993 (lornalagerman@hotmail.com)

I was evacuated to Scotland in October/November 1940 after being bombed during the blitz. I attended the Gordon School for roughly l year and would be aged 9 in November of that year - I was born in Holland and came to live in England just prior to the war with my English father and Dutch mother. I mention this because it has great relevance, as far as I was concerned, for during my period at the school I can remember being given the strap which given the circumstances was pretty horrendous considering the fact that I was all alone living with a Mrs. Day, 16 George Street and must have felt very homesick. She was very kind and my family came up to see me soon afterwards.

My memory of the school is fairly vivid and I was so surprised to see your website picture for I remember it so clearly. The classroom was in tiers with wooden desks and we had slates to write on. There was no nonsense and it was very strict. I remember having a long singing lesson on Monday morning and we sang all the typical songs - The Campbells are coming.... etc etc. In the break I recall someone came with a steaming tray of bread pudding for which we paid l/2d. and it was delicious.

I could go on but suffice to say that the school was really brilliant and on my return to Surrey I passed a scholarship to Tiffin Girls' School, Kingston on Thames and eventually went to college - not bad for a little evacuee with a very interrupted education and I think I can say with conviction that the Gordon School certainly gave me a foundation on which to build. I have always wanted to say thank you to someone and at last an opportunity has come but obviously it is too late for my old teachers! I hope this has been of some interest to you and I can honestly say I feel relieved at getting this off my chest.

Yours sincerely, Rosemary Humphrey (Mrs). Believe it or not back then I was called Willy Wnter

Just retired from a career in Music education. I never forget how lucky I was to have such teachers, Alex Keith, Music; Albert Begg, Latin; Daddy Law, Maths and Bum Stewart French. What they gave me has seen me well through my life. Eric Rice - former pupil 1950 - 1963 (e.rice@virgin.net)

Came from Cairney in 1943 Primary then Secondary. Enjoyed school though I
didn't realise it at the ti. Left 1948 at age 15. Lawrence M. Martin, Montrose. Former pupil.

Am I right in thinking that the school motto is Bydand? And if so, how does it translate? Mt sister and I were sitting in the Festival hall restaurant today singing the old school song!! I went to the Gordon Schools from 1947 to 1953 and my father, Mr Gordon Baxter, taught English there. We lived in Nelson Street. my father wrote books of Interpretations and Comprehensions, but I can't now find any copies of them. I remember the primary school when it had its wonderful double staircase, and I can still hear the sound of our feet as we came in, in single file, from the playground, and ran/walked up the intertwining stairs. Garry Telling[née Baxter]
