Welcome

As soon as we heard that our class was going to do the BBC school report we were all excited. Kevin Kean came into our school to help us first we had to arrange a whole news programme on pieces of paper from the most important to the least important. We all enjoyed this and learnt how to arrange our reports when we got started.

We were lucky because we got to go to the BBC studios in Aberdeen. We got to see and do a bit of the work of a news reporter for the BBC. We got to go over the news on the radio we found that fun not just to try but to listen to. (the radio wasn’t live) We also got to go and try to be a news presenter on the TV and most of us found it hard to read the auto cue. In Aberdeen we got a taste of the work of a journalist. We also got to see the editing studio where there was a man who was showing us how to edit our clips. The day at the BBC studios it was really fun and we leaned a lot for our news reports.

When we were back in English we brain stormed to decide what topic each group wanted to do. The decided topics were sports, facilities for under 18s, bus safety and the credit crunch. My group did the credit crunch. We then had to decide who we wanted to interview, we also had to watch some videos sent by the BBC and we all took in the information on how to start our reports. When we had the interviews arranged we had to make up the questions and we also had to make up follow up questions encase we talked to fast or the answers we short.

On the day we had to spilt up to do different jobs like editing the clips, writing up the script, filming, making the thank you letters and making our homepages with the text about what each group were doing. Once we had finished assigning each others places we got to work. I think the script was one of the hardest parts you had to link the speaking part with the clip.

Once we had done the script we had to go down to the studio suit to record the linking pieces of the report together. After we did that we had to get to work downloading it onto a laptop and start editing. Every one started to get very stressed when they were editing because they weren’t sure if they were going to make the deadline. Once we had got them fully edited, Mr Sutcliffe started to download the reports onto the BBC school report website. After we had finished the reports we listened to the BBC school report live to hear shout outs and to listen to Grant and Caroline on the radio saying about they’re experience of the BBC day and what they enjoyed about it.
